Chrome Paint Advise Wanted

Hi all,

The next truck project is now under way.
I've got a few parts that I want to be chromed. I've looked in to getting them fully chromed but it isn't worth the cost.
Next best option is to paint.....

So I need some advice on the best chrome paints out there, that are going to give me the most realistic appearance. So what are you boyz & galz using.

Hi... I've used "chrome paint" in the past and found it's nothing more than very shiney paint and you'll never see your reflection in it.... I use a self adhesive 50mm tape to chrome very small parts, it's used to do small areas on Cars/Vans and the Pro's use it at Vehicle Wrappers... I've used it on interior trim in my car and it's quite good....

If you're good with an air brush, you could try Alclad Chrome over a basecoat of gloss black. Not tried this myself, but seen remarkable results from others.

Heard of people using alclad also, but believe it takes a while to cure properly so if you give it a try don't be tempted to pick up or move the parts too soon.

Some good ideas there, I like the idea of the tape but not sure how well that will go around bends.
I'm not to bad either with a air brush and the Alclad is fairly cheap so I may give that a try too

the tape is good in small areas.. I have a roll of 2 or 3mm wide that's used for pinstriping 1:1 cars, used it to good effect on the pink scania.

My favourite Chrome is from USA. Spax Stix. terrible name, great product. three layers, black backer, chrome, clear coat. goes well on the inside of 1/10 poly shells too.
good colour, and no colour swirls in the finish.

..just tried a tin of Ironlak brand, on the inside of a 20fter... looks nice and shiny inside, but a bit dull and grey-bluish thru the (almost) clear polycarbonate sides and top. (should look ok with Mearsk decals..) as a single coat, its a bit dull, but looks good on things like the container rear door latch clamps.
