Scania Fire Appliance (my first build)

Heya guys,

As some of you may all ready know I'm Perry and im 18. My plan is to build a scania fire appliance with as much working bits as possible! I am not paticulary copying any fire appliance but im taking odds 'n' sods from other appliances to make my dream model! The plan so far is to have the Scania CP31 (large) crewcab with a 4.3m wheelbase chassi. I would love to have working lockers with all the kit inside pluss ladder gantries and ladders of course! im also looking at a winch (3racing?) to mount on the front and im also debating weather this should be a 4x4 spec appliance or a standard 2x4. Im also going to try and do alot of in cab detiling wich will be tricky but im sure with the friendly and helpfull advice on here il have any problems solved in no time!

Woops forgot to ask about the lockers! as far as I can see it there is no easy way to make fully realistic, tough, durable Lockers but Im certain its posible if you no how! does anyone have any experiance in making lockers or ideas on how I could do it?

i know plasticard is a big fave with the modders, its availavle in various thickness as well, so can be as durable as you want.. also, i'd make it a 4x2

Cheers mate! I was thinking of plasticard myself but im not 100% sure how it will roll up, i think there is going to be alot of prototypes! lol

Graham the design program is google sketchup 7 its free to download and fairly simple to use once you get use to the basics. its brilliant!

great idea for a build mate!!!

the best man i know of with the plasticard is avitman, have a look at his volvo wrecker, should give you some food for thought.

liking the idea of the 4x4 appliance though, should be fairly straight forward, just need some tlt axles and hilift gearbox.
if your not bothered about the 3 speed, look at a axial gearbox as they are bullet proof

Cheer's Gaz, that volvo is an amazing build I must say, I'm Sure il learn alot from it My inital idea was to use Plasticard glued on to a brass subframe and mounted onto the chassi, But now im thinking just use a thicker plasticard with a plastic tube subframe? I think there will be alot of trial and error
